Now I’m going to be the first to admit I’m not the most technical of people but having just downloaded the new ios5 software from Apple last night for my iPad, although all the updates were good one stood out in particular, iCloud, I thought to myself this is pretty damn good, and most importantly oh so simple. I’ve lost count of the times I have had to re-download songs or plug my iPad into my computer to get the songs I want onto my Pad.
It doesn’t get more straight forward than this to access all of the music, videos, pictures and don’t forget this data can be accessed through a number of devices anywhere in the world. Not only this, but it completely frees up all memory space on your device, you only download what you want when you want and the rest is tucked away neatly in the cloud, ready for when you need it. In short the Cloud really does make sense.
With some of the biggest companies in the world moving to a cloud platform to deliver a service to their customers, you really can start to see how the same platform can benefit a business environment.
We know that these days businesses like your own create many new documents and files on a daily basis, over a period of time these files build up on your system, eventually slowing it down. But, and it is a big but, that isn’t the only problem, the bigger problem is if your hard drive with all of your files on fails. An interesting stat shows that 60% of all data is held on PC Desktops and laptops, with no backup*.
Usually businesses will have files backed up to an external hard drive or even better a server. These options are obviously a lot better than losing your files, but not totally without problems of their own.
• Tape Drives: Are probably the most inconsistent and likely to fail
• Hard Drives: Statistically 1 in 5 Hard Drives will fail in there life time*
Cloud Backups: Providing you have an internet connection Cloud Backups are the simplest and most secure way of backing up your files.
Backing up your business files to the cloud, makes perfect sense. Easy access, no clutter, smoother running systems and even better it’s affordable! With low monthly payment options available if you want to spread your costs rather than finding a lump sum up front.
