All IT centric businesses seek a comprehensive disaster recovery plan but few consider the benefits of Disaster Resilience. Ideally all businesses would have an infrastructure which could withstand a disaster, without the need to go through a recovery period and all the downtime associated with it.
The most effective means of attaining Disaster Resilience is through the deployment of a shared storage solution back-ending a virtual server. This type of deployment can allow for complete server resilience, removing any single points of failure from an environment. Traditionally, shared storage is provided by a SAN but the cost of such a solution soon becomes prohibitive for many firms. However, there are other options out there.
In such a situation we would recommend the deployment of a virtual SAN, this would allow a business to repurpose a standard Windows server into a Storage Platform. Such a solution manages to be cost effective without sacrificing any features, not to mention providing the benefit of a significant performance boost over traditional storage resulting from intelligent caching.
If a Disaster Resilient environment is what your company desires then don’t be afraid to look beyond the traditional solutions, much more effective and attainable systems do exist.
